Killingworth Lions have fun at Pork Roast!!! A bright and warm Fall afternoon greeted 50 Killingworth Lions, guests, friends, and kids Sunday October 21, 2007 at the beautiful Boy Scout reservation off Paper Mill Road. Tom Houpert and Charlie Smith greeted all with a warm smile and an invitation to sample crab cakes, dip, salmon canapés, and other appetizers too numerous to mention. George McQuenney was the first to arrive with a keg of Sam Adams October Fest. No one turned down his generous offer of fresh ice cold suds. Next came Tom Houpert with two cooked pork loins over his home grill. Ann, Tom's wife, asked how she could help, so we made several suggestions. She went right to work arranging the tables with those handsome pumpkins and mums provided by Sandy Smith. Even Tim Foreman, with two small children in tow, set up the picnic tables and banners. As usual, our wives provided tempting side dishes and desserts in abundance. When most of us were done eating John McMahon spoke to us about Lions International and our local Killingworth Lions activities. He appropriately described us as "Boy Scouts with beers“. Our two potential Lion guests had to be impressed with the commadery displayed both by fellow Lions and their wives. We thank all of those who attended a really worthwhile event. We missed those who could not make it. We will see you all again at our Christmas Party. Charlie Smith and Tom Houpert
