Proclamation Of the Board of Selectmen Whereas, Charles E. Martens, Jr., longtime citizen and servant of Killingworth, Connecticut, has selflessly shared his time, effort, numerous skills and extensive knowledge for the economic, emotional, spiritual and fraternal enrichment of the Town of Killingworth and its residents, thereby raising up this humble community and providing to all a model of charity and goodwill; and Whereas, he has, through a variety of civic, social, professional, charitable and public service capacities served this community with honor, integrity, humility, love and dedication; and Whereas, those efforts, too numerous to fully recount, include longtime posts within the Town Government, including member of the Planning and Zoning Commission for twenty years, fourteen as Chairperson, member of the Inland Wetlands and Watercourses Commission, the Open Space Sub-Committee, the Charter Revision Commission, the Killingworth Housing Partnership, the Democratic Town Committee and current active member of the Zoning Board of Appeals, member of the Killingworth Lions wherein he served as past President and Vice President, member of the Board of Directors, Tent Chairman, originator of the Senior Dinner, and the Fidelco Dog raffle, and most worthy recipient of the Melvin Jones Award; and Whereas, in addition to the above, Charles has served the greater community as a teacher of thirty-six years in the North Branford Schools, where, for his extensive efforts and service he was recognized with the prestigious Celebration of Excellence Award, and further honored by the Secretary of State with the Community Service Award for his extensive and tireless community service; further he has honored his beloved wife Carol with whom he has raised two beautiful daughters, Cris and Jen and an equally beautiful grandson, Michael; and Whereas, Charles’ hard work, devotion to, and success of, the aforementioned activities, having greatly contributed to the betterment of all current and future citizens of this fine Town of Killingworth and demonstrating a loving and caring attitude toward his community; Now, Therefore, we, the Killingworth Board of Selectmen, in acknowledgment of the foregoing and in recognition of the fine works and deeds of Charles E. Martens, Jr., do hereby proclaim Monday, the 18th day of February of the year of our Lord 2008 as Charles E. Martens, Jr. Day Richard James Cabral, First Selectman
