On February 16, the Killingworth Lions Club hosted its ELEVENTH ANNUAL SENIOR DINNER at the Saint Lawrence Church Hall. Over 70 friends and neighbors were treated to a dinner of Beef Stroganoff with all the trimmings. The menu included appetizer trays of fresh fruit and assorted cheeses, fruit punch and wine, Ceasar salad, and a choice of carrot cake or cheese cake for dessert. Before dinner Father Robert Buongirno offered a blessing. State Senator Ed Meyer and State Representative Brian O’Connor addressed the group informing them of the latest happening concerning seniors at the State Capital. State Troubadour, Tom Callinan of Crackerbarrel Entertainments, serenaded the dinner guests with a variety of popular songs from the 40s through the 80s. At the dinner, Charlie Martens received the Lions’ Outstanding Citizen of the Year Award in recognition of his many years of service to Killingworth. First Selectman Rich Cabral presented Charlie with a plaque, signed by the Selectmen, proclaiming February 18, 2008, as Charles E. Martens Jr. Day. This annual February event is sponsored by the Lions Club to recognize and honor the town’s senior citizens. This highly anticipated affair is enjoyed by all participants, both Lions and guests. All Killingworth seniors 65 and over are invited to attend next year. Last Updated: March 1, 2008 |
