It is worth repeating, so we would offer you our Mission Statement: Mission Statement: The Killingworth Lions is a service organization dedicated to addressing the needs of the community, encouraging behavior and supporting programs that strive to improve the quality of life in Killingworth and our extended community. We embrace the motto of the Lions International® as our own: "WE SERVE." Our 2005-2006 year ahead is a special year for the Killingworth Lions. It will mark our 35th Anniversary and 35 years of service to Killingworth and our extended communities. The club was chartered with 38 members
on January 23, 1971. We were sponsored by the Middletown Lions Club.
At present, we have 53 members who represent a varied cross-section
of Killingworth. To this day, five charter members remain active in
the club. Meetings: The club's general membership meets on the 1st and 3rd Wednesdays of every month from September through June. Meetings are held at the Killingworth VFW Hall, located at Route 81 and Pond Meadow Road, in Killingworth. Meetings begin at 7:30 PM. The first meeting is a dinner meeting, often with a speaker; the second meeting is for acting on club business plus our service and benevolent activities. On the 2nd Wednesday of the month, a smaller meeting is held by our officers and directors, where all club functions, business and benevolent activities are first discussed for presentation to the general membership at the monthly business meeting. Our club is governed by a Board of Directors
that is elected annually by the full membership. The Board of Directors
includes the President, three Vice Presidents, Secretary, Treasurer,
Lion Tamer, Tail Twister and a group of Directors who coordinate many
club activities. Our club actually consists of two entities: Killingworth Lions, Inc. & We are the same club, but it is important to note that we handle our finances via the two organizations listed above. Financially, the club maintains two budgets -Administrative and Benevolent. Our purpose is clear: community fundraising supports the community, not the club. The Administrative budget is funded by member dues and internal funding. This budget covers all expenses of operating the club, which has is organized as the Killingworth Lions, Inc. The Benevolent budget is supported by
the net of all community fundraising activities. Those funds are administered
under the auspices of the Killingworth Lions Charities, Inc., a 501(C)3
Non-profit corporation. It cannot be stressed enough, the net of all our fundraising activities supports the community (not the club) via the Killingworth Lions Charities, Inc. - a 501(C)3 organization. Lions Clubs International For the upcoming year, as the Killingworth Lions Club celebrates its 35th year in existence, our parent organization, Lions Clubs International will be celebrating its 85th year of operation.
